If so, look no further… We are seeking a dedicated Senior Environmental Advisor to join our client, a major principal contractor focussed on major civil engineering projects. Why the Senior Environmental Advisor position is something you should apply for: The successful candidate will oversee and advise on environmental practices across various water utility sites in the Southeast of the UK, ensuring regulatory compliance and promoting environmental innovation to support sustainable growth. The successful Senior Environmental Advisor will: Support the delivery of environmental excellence by providing advice, education, and promoting sustainable growth. Undertake and review environmental assessments, producing appropriate environmental management plans in line with the Environmental Management System (EMS). Ensure compliance with legal requirements and protection of the environment through ongoing reviews of the EMS. Carry out inspections and audits of facilities, sites, and projects to ensure compliance with ISO 14001, permits, and environmental legislation. Record and action non-conformances and improvement recommendations. Develop collaborative stakeholder relationships internally and externally, including with clients, environmental regulators, and other relevant stakeholders. Produce and submit technical applications for environmental permits, assents, licences, and consents. Promote a positive environmental culture and deliver environmental awareness training for employees. Provide support and advice on environmental incident management, ensuring correct reporting, categorisation, and actioning of incidents and near misses. Conduct environmental incident investigations and develop improvement recommendations. Identify sites and projects for environmental innovation opportunities to deliver sustainability goals and best practices, developing operational trials where appropriate. Support the development and implementation of business environmental and sustainability initiatives, plans, and strategies. To be considered for the Senior Environmental Advisor you will need: Qualified to a degree level in an environmental discipline or equivalent experience in a relevant environmental role. Associate level membership or higher with a relevant environmental body (e.g., IEMA). At least 3 years of experience in a relevant environmental role. Experience in audit and compliance with an environmental management system (ISO 14001). Experience in preparing and managing environmental permitting, consents, licences, and exemption applications. Sound knowledge of environmental legislation and providing operational advice on compliance. Understanding of environmental innovation opportunities to deliver sustainability goals. Ability to write complex environmental plans and reports and interpret environmental data. Ability to carry out detailed investigations, compile evidence, and develop recommendations. Provide technical environmental advice and support to the business and clients. Willingness and ability to be flexible and travel regionally (full driving licence is essential). Collaborative approach to working with others. Desirable: Master’s degree in an environmental discipline. Practitioner or full member of a relevant environmental body (e.g., IEMA). ISO 14001 lead auditor. CSCS card (technical level). 2 years of experience working in an environmental role in the construction/utilities/infrastructure sector. Experience working with key environmental regulators. Experience delivering environmental innovation and best practices to achieve sustainability goals. Experience managing environmental projects.
